After 60 (work in progress)
Background
End of January 2026, I sent the following email to everyone over 60 in my wider network:
The start of a new year often brings quiet questions.
I am currently exploring a new artwork shaped by one of those questions, and I would like to invite you to be part of it, if you wish.
You have recently turned 60 or it’s been a few years.
You are working full time, part-time or as a volunteer, have started planning your resignation or retirement, have retired, or don’t plan to retire at all.
Your children, if you have them, are less dependent on you – or still dependent on you.
Your parents or your partner may require your care or may have passed.
Your circle of friends and contacts feels stable, is broadening or has shrunk.
You may start to wonder, ‘Now what?’
Or perhaps you are past wondering.
What gives meaning – or will give meaning – to your life now?
In one handwritten sentence, on a horizontal A4 sheet of paper.
Feel free to write whatever comes naturally – it can be one word.
There is no right or wrong answer.
If you’d like to participate, I would be grateful to receive your answer by the end of February.
You can fold the paper and snail mail it to me (anonymously, if you prefer) or photograph/ scan your handwritten sentence and email it to me.
Your words will join others in a collective exploration of life after 60.
I will reproduce your handwriting and compile all the responses, which will remain anonymous, in a sculptural artist’s book.
